Goonie Time for Albatross to try to nest

A Laysan albatross was recently seen attempting to build a nest under the ironwoods near the Alaloa in the eastern side of Lepeuli (Hanwright side). It is an unusual time to begin nesting – about 6 months late! Immature birds sometimes “play house” and go through the motions of nesting without mate. They often return to the same area to nest the next year – with a mate.

Let’s hope this bird does not come back to nest and find cow manure and an eroded slope.
